Railway Age

Imagine the scene,When the steam engine was part of everyday life. The busy platform full of people going about their business. The milk churns and carts full of mail bags awaiting the train to their destinations, and when the train arrives,The steam, warm oil and coal,The Driver and Fireman in control of their powerful engine, sight and sounds that are not easily forgotten.Porters would be in attendance to assist passengers with their luggage.Children, young and not so young with their books and pencil ready to take the engine number.Imagine the scene...........

Imagine the scene because its all gone,no longer is there milk and postbags on platforms, nor are there any porters to assist, these days your lucky if the station is manned at all,This site tries to captue these long gone times by way of photos taken at Preserved Railways such as K&WVR and The East Lancs Railway. This site is dedicated to the vast number of volunteers who give up their time, and work incredibley hard so we can return to a much better time even if its only for an hour or so .......

I hope you enjoy your visit.......

This is the latest Video clip showing on You Tube.It was filmed at The East Lancs Railways Diesel Gala held on the Weekend 3-5 July 2009.

I have worked in both industries and I am sad to say that in my opinion the Bus & Coach industry is much the same as The Railway, past its best.
Gone are the days when the Conductor gave young and old alike a sense of security.
The familiar friendly face that helped you on or off the bus who even took the time to help with prams and shopping. Little things we all took so much for granted .

Todays companies don't seem to provide a Public Service and appear to be purely profit driven.Such is the world we live in now.

Admittedly the buses and coaches nowadays are safer,They are more comfortable and no doubt they are more environmentally friendly, but do they have the character of the old classics, and do the have the characters working on them.

At present I drive HGV's for a living and I think the same can be said about road haulage Industry as well. Most of the local operators have gone, swallowed up by multi-national companies. The large variety of vehicles that used to grace our roads, now seems to be made up with Scanias,Volvos and the like.

The great days of the car have also gone.I'm afraid I can barely tell one make from another now.

Then again maybe its just an old bore looking through rose tinted glasses.
