The East Lancs Railway

When you pay a visit to the East Lancs Railway I am sure you will have a wonderful time. Full of atmosphere and very friendly staff make for a very pleasant day out. Not only is the Steam engine very much alive at the E.L.R but its also the home of the largest collection of ex mainline Diesel locomotives in the U.K. Many events are held throughout the year

There is also a Cafe situated on the Platform for your comfort as you wait for your Train, Not that you ever have long to wait.

A short walk away in the village,Tea coffee and snacks are available in the Tea Rooms of the Village Church between 1pm & 4.30pm most Sundays throughout the year.

One of the E.L.R's Three water tower is situated here and the footbridge gives a great vantage point for filming and photography.This station has recently had a new canopy added.

Rawtenstall is the start of your journey back in time.The scenic station boasts a Tearoom in the main building as well as a waiting room and Toilets.

Having left Rawtenstall we follow the River Irwell and our first halt is the delightful Irwell Vale station.This beautifully landscaped station has a car park that is well used by E.L.R customers and hillwalkers alike.

Ramsbottom on this occasion was being used for photo shoot.The Station stands next to a level crossing and signal box, Most weekends see the part of carpark taken over by the village market which gives ample opportunity to buy a wide variety of goods.

Take a break at Ramsbottom and and explore the shops and Market and if you feel like something to eat there are snack bars just outside the station. If you would rather picnic there's a nice park area and walkway just beyond the level crossing with a viewing area.
